John Gurbacs

I am seeking a balance between opposites such as order and chaos, large and small, or the physical and metaphysical. Working with this attitude reveals for me new interpretations and ways of seeing the world.
Biography
John Gurbacs (b. Oct. 31, 1947) is a Tampa-based artist and local born in Budapest, Hungary. He received his Associate of the Arts from Miami-Dade Community College (1968), Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida State University (1970), and a post graduate studies degree in Fine Art from the University of South Florida in 1975. Inspired by his environment, Gurbacs’ paintings embed geometric forms within natural landscapes, seeking to draw connections and contrasts between the patterns found in anything from construction debris and foliage to microscopic imagery. Gurbacs creates both oil-on-canvas and mural works, many of which are inspired by fractals, or “computer generated forms that interpret the geometry of nature.” This connection between natural and man-made or mathematical forms is central to Gurbacs’ work.
